Monica Wells was born and raised in northern Indiana in 1976. All things in her world had the potential to become art or a tool for her creativity. At the age of nine, a lifelong love was born when she was introduced to oils.

Early art education for Monica came from local artists, books, and public school. She earned her minor in Studio Art from Indiana University.

Over time, work and family filled Monica’s days. The spark to create remained, but was not fed. In 2016 life changed. Leisure time was revealed, and she took to the forests and mountains. While hiking in the Smokies, the undeniable spark to create her artistic inspirations of the world turned to a roaring flame. The watercolors were dusted off and taken to the mountains with 4”x6” watercolor paper. Postcards from the mountains became the adventurers sketch book.

2018 saw her return to the studio. Monica’s love affair with oils was reborn. New techniques and styles emerged as she discovered the limitlessness of painting with knives. Time spent cleaning brushes became time spent painting. New pieces poured out. Her world expanded. All things were inspiring. The inspiration could finally be honored.

Through her love of travel and exploration, she discovered that her greatest inspiration is in the southeastern US. Monica can be found in a variety of public spaces in the Carolinas and Georgia. Traveling and painting the endless inspiration that is the deep south.

In the mountains, the low country, and the Atlantic; Monica has reclaimed her passion and her faith. She is compelled to create and share with the intention of moving hearts. Inspiring the creativity in us all.
