Oil on 22 × 28 two-inch gallery-wrap canvas.
Painted primarily with brushes, with palette-knife work in the tree.
Painted in Indiana.
Misty Lady began with a white dress.
Soon after our daughter announced her engagement, I knew there would eventually be a painting of her in her wedding dress. But she hadn't found her dress yet.
So we went looking for one.
A thrift-store wedding dress became our stand-in, giving me a chance to explore the movement of the fabric, the quiet figure walking away, and the feeling I wanted the eventual painting to hold.
Misty Lady became more than a practice piece. She became her own story.
Someday soon, our daughter's “Yes!” dress will become part of the story too.
